The country of Africa
that I have chosen is for this first blog assignment is South Africa. South
Africa is located on Africa’s southernmost tip and is surrounded by the
Atlantic Ocean on the west and Indian Ocean on its east and south and is about
471,359 sq. mi (1,220,813 sq. km). South Africa's latitude and longitude is 29°
00' South and 24° 00' east. The largest city in South Africa is Cape Town.
South Africa boasts a demarcated Republic. The Republic of South Africa has
three capitals. Pretoria is the Adriminstrative capital, The Legislative
capital is Cape Town, and the Judicial capital is Bloemfontein. The current
president is Jacob Zuma as of 2009. South Africa also has nine demarcated
provinces, they are: Gauteng, Northern Province, Mpumalanga, North West,
KwaZulu/Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Free State and each
of these province has its own capital. South Africa’s estimated population is
48,375,645 million people. There are 3 major geographical regions in South
Africa that consists of mountain ranges to the east, south, and west. The other
two geographical regions consist of an interior plateau and in the Northeast is
a ridge of rock where gold is mined called Witwatersrand.
